The Latch’s Pledge

When the iron falls silent, sliding slow,
and the bolt finds its secure nest,
it is not just a sound, a fleeting show,
but a pure pact sealed between inside and out.
An invisible boundary takes form,
a subtle promise of quiet and rest,
while the world awaits and keeps warm,
to the space intact, sacred and blessed.

Every fiber of wood, every shadow cast,
becomes keeper of an inner secret.
Here the soul deposits its defense at last,
far from the clamor, from the call we detect.
No indiscreet wind or sharp gaze can stray,
across the threshold without invitation,
protected by that gesture, still and in array,
that creates another place, a refuge station.

Not mere metal, solid and mute to sound,
but granted trust, a covenant profound,
a subtle vow upon hallowed ground.
The latch watches over the turning world around,
faithful guardian, always attentive,
to every calm breath, every dream heaven-sent,
a small protector, eternally preventive.
