Sighs of Stone

A stone arch, mute and stern,
holds the passage of an entire world.
With immense shoulders, in timeless time,
it watches water follow its flow.
But in its heart, which no one guesses,
an ancient echo, a divine desire.
Not the current that slowly wets it,
nor the friendly shadow the willow spreads,
is its deep yearning. It dreams of daring waterfalls,
tempestuous rivers, frightened currents.
Unknown horizons, remote mountains,
where the waters dance among the motions.
And in that dream without ever an end,
its melancholy has no close.
An immobile giant, eternal guardian,
whose spirit praises other worlds.
A bridge that unites but remains divided,
with a distant dream within its silence.
