Metro Breath
The subway breathes iron pulsing in the dark.
Tired lights, voices melted, a train that holds its breath.
The rails beat out, a heart running through the cars.
Each station is a breath that fades and restarts.
But deep down the breath dreams of flying through blades of grass.
The steel bends into wind, becoming a sail upon the meadow.
The track becomes a wave, the carriage a sail of light.
And the city holds its breath, for a beat of freedom.
