# Melody Without Time

An old clock, upon the wall is silent,
Its hands are still, a breath that's absent.
No longer the tick-tock time can trace,
Just deep and eloquent silence in its place.
But in its heart, of weary gears confined,
It is not nothingness, but an echo defined.
Of laughter and tears, of moments long since spent,
A memory that time has never bent.
It is a song without notes, a fragile whisper low,
Of hours lived, of slow departures and ebb flow.
Every stolen instant, a treasure unseen,
Resounds in its shell, forever keen.
Thus the stopped clock, a silent bard so grand,
Tells a story of what was and what will stand.
Its secret song, within the heart is felt to be,
The true melody that time can never flee.

## Explanation

The poem constitutes a deep and melancholy meditation on time, not in its chronometric and linear dimension, but in the subjective and stratified one of human memory. The central and foundational element is the stopped clock, which transcends its role as a mere mechanical object to become a powerful philosophical metaphor. Initially presented with the stasis of silence — an "absent breath" that cancels out the soothing rhythm of the ticking —, the text immediately establishes a contrast between physical absence and the intrinsic richness of what has been lived.

The overcoming of mere mechanical description occurs with the revelation of the "distant echo." It is in this passage that the poem rises from simple observation to existential reflection. The clock, rather than being a silent witness to decline, becomes rather a container of experiences: "laughter and tears," moments now extinguished but not erased. This resonance suggests that material time (measured by the hands) is destined for nothingness or oblivion, but emotional memory has an almost sacred resistance.

The use of language is highly evocative and symbolic. The mechanical object is anthropomorphized until it transforms into a "silent bard." This personification is crucial: silence is not absence of
