# Lunar Breath

The moon's breath reflects upon the dry fountain,
a cold ray that does not wet, but illuminates the stone.
The surface is silent, yet it breathes memory,
stone that listens, wind that caresses the empty mouth.
The water finds lost words, buried in the dry bottom;

and silence becomes language, ready to tell.

## Explanation

The poem constitutes a meditation on the ephemeral nature of memory and the communicative power of silence. The setting—the dry fountain illuminated by the "lunar breath"—is not merely a landscape background, but a powerful symbolic device that immediately establishes a climate of melancholic quietude and temporal suspension. The moon, in this context, transcends its astronomical function to become an ethereal mediator, a cold, intellectual light that does not nourish nor revive (does not wet), but reveals what is latent, leaving the observer before a sensory paradox: illumination without substance.

The narrative core lies in the contrast between the dryness and the potential vitality of the place. The dry fountain symbolizes a withdrawn memory, an interrupted story, or a language that has suffered a block. The text shifts attention from the visible to the subterranean: lost words are buried in the dry bottom, like linguistic fossils.

This passage is crucial because it suggests that truth and meaning are not found in superficial manifestation or noisy action, but in forgotten depths. Water, an element traditionally associated with purification and the flow of time, acts here as a catalyst; reactivating the buried words by making them emerge like "small waves." These
